Another Meme: 7 Random Things About Me

1. I have not had a TV in over 9 years. This is technically a lie. I have had a TV now in my apartment for about 2 months. I have still not turned it on though. On the other hand, because I have not built up an immunity to TV, when I see it in other people’s houses or in bars I am completely transfixed by the magical moving pictures.

2. For years my dream job was to be a rabbi. But that was just to read the books, I didn’t like the social aspect of it all and I didn’t like praying at all. Later a dream of mine was to be to be a professional magician but I decided that it was too manipulative and stopped. I prefer jugglers to magicians though I can barely juggle. My new dream job is to be a storyteller or a game designer or both.

4. When I was very young (2 or 3 years old) I had the belief that I came into the world with perfect knowledge, however the moment I learned a new word I would cease, forever, to be able to understand what it was meant to express. For a long time I was scared to learn new words. I still believe this to some degree though I am no longer scared.

3. Keeping with words, I have written 3 pages in my journal almost every day for the last 6 months.

7. I love games. A lot. I just like them in general. Among my favorites: Go, Chess (though it’s a bit competative), Truco, Settlers of Catan, Casino, Egyptian Rat Screw. I like games you can win together. Like games? Live in Buenos Aires? Let me know and maybe we play.

5. I once did a joke documentary by driving around the USA for three months with my friend. We asked people on the street, in bars, in restaurants, on boats for jokes and we recorded them on audio tape. We did it because no one can remember jokes and what if everyone forgot all their jokes at the exact same moment? It wouldn’t be funny…

6. Yesterday Pip tagged me to do this meme thing. I didn’t know what it entailed and I was at work so I was a bit of a grouch about it. Full disclosure, I got freaked out that someone could tell me what to write in my blog. Which is silly. Sorry Pip, it turns out that this is actually fun to do. And now, because you can make people do things by tagging them:

i’m probably way unhip and out of the loop and this kind of thing, but what does it mean to tag someone to do a meme?

that’s like another language to me. is that spanish or something?

Don’t worry nicole, i didn’t know either. A meme is an idea that spreads like a virus. so in this case you’re supposed to answer the questions and then spread it on to more people, etc. It’s kind of a weird idea that you can “tag” people to do things though. It’s not really my style though. I prefer “inspire” to “tag”.

Though let me just say that Tag is an AWESOME game, along with Capture the Flag. I have totally got to organize a capture the flag game…

Don’t bother turning the TV on unless you want to see dancing girls: Argentinian TV is almost as bad as Italian and, let’s face it, despite what we like to think, we are less attractive too!

I like games too and once wrote a very nerdy post about Scrabble 😛 You like words and games so it should be one of your favourites, except for the competitiveness… I am awful at it by the way, but my excuse is that we play in English and it takes me twice as long to come up with suitable words!

Jokes are only funny as long as the people telling them are good at it, but I like your idea of documenting them for the benefit of mankind.

Lastly, I’ve done this meme before so I won’t join in this time around 🙂

    Hi Nate,
Now I’m glad you left a comment on my blog cause somehow I would have missed yours for another while if not and, damn, I LIKE it!! I think it’s the operating under 2 names thing which got me confused… The rabbi part is the best!
    Un beso

    7 Random Things:

    1) Visiting my parents the other day they started talking about how brilliant your underground newspaper from high school was… something about an editorial on breast cancer. I told them to read your blog. I like to bring similar people together.

    2) I compulsively edit others writing, and am unable to see faults in my own (is this layered with deeper meaning? Likely.). Your 7 things go 1,2,4,3,7,5,6.

    3) I want to speak Spanish. Quiero hablar espanol. Ahora.

    4) I’m visiting you in the spring and would really like to play capture the flag while in Buenos Aires.

    5) I am obsessed with food and have not been bowled over by Central American cuisine. I have high(er) hopes for South America. Advice?

    6) I love the after-glow brought on by a hard hike, but I hate the hiking part.

    7) I fear that I may never figure out what I want to be when I grow up.
